Safe Harbor Training : Shifting Cultural Perspectives to Foster Healthy Relationships

March 20, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

This presentation will explore the complexities of race, culture, and privilege from a trauma informed lens. It will ignite courageous conversations related to how the effects of trauma create barriers, healthy suspicion, and ongoing divides. This presentation will challenge audience members to engage in authentic self-reflection regarding how we do our work, how we bring our truth and ways to shift our lens.

Objectives:

1)    Participants will learn culturally responsive strategies to improve the effectiveness of working with communities of color.

2)    Participants will gain awareness of cultural differences, and begin the process of understanding oppressive individuals.

Presenters:   Evette Farley  and  Dr. Chaneé Rudolph

Evette Farley is a Mental Health Professional who works systemically with adults, adolescents, children and families, using a culturally responsive and holistic lens. She has provided therapy services since 2010. She has been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and provides an increased awareness of knowledge for individuals and families affected by various types of trauma. Evette has provided group therapy including Psychoeducation to individuals struggling with dual diagnoses. She currently provides school-based and in-home therapy services to her clients and their families. In her spare time, Evette is an adjunct professor teaching graduate courses in a Counseling program. She also is in the process of pursuing licensure in Alcohol and Drug counseling, in order to support adolescents who are struggling with chemical dependency. Her passion is working with adolescents on their path to freedom and teaching emerging counselors.

Dr. Chaneé Rudolph is a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family therapist, with a PhD in Christian Counseling, who approaches therapy through a holistic/authentic healing lens, believing that everyone has a story worth telling and being told. She has been working with individuals and families since 2010, with experience in graduate level teaching and now provides school based and in-home therapeutic services for children and families of all cultural backgrounds. In her work, she integrates therapeutic models with cultural knowledge in order to create an in-depth awareness of discovering who we are, where we come from, and what our future might hold.
