Preparing for a Shift 10.20.26
Description
Preparing for a Shift
Preparing for a Shift is a 2-hour training that will focus on practical skills that support youth workers to appropriately prepare for a shift based on their own needs, their setting, and the support available in their ecosystem. This is primarily a practice session, and participants should be ready to explore their own preparation process and apply new strategies to their work.
By attending this session, you can expect to (1) review the basics of shift preparation; (2) customize a preparation plan that addresses personal, role, and community needs; and (3) practice communicating about your needs with others.
By the end of the training, our goal is that you will be able to say:
- I know how to develop a preparation plan and adapt it to my personal needs
- I can compare specific prep strategies based on my understanding of community needs and resources
- I know how to have conversations about prep with my support network
- I can apply the StreetWorks standards of preparation to my own unique context
Participants will get the most from this training by having:
- An understanding of where you will consistently do your work in the communityand how your shifts are usually structured
- An open-mind and willingness to explore assessing your personal needs and communicating them.
- Familiarity with the specific policies and practices at your agency how that shapes the way you do your shifts
