GED stands for General Education Development.
A GED is intended to show that you have an education that is equivalent to a high school diploma. Thousands of young people in Minnesota receive their GED each year.
The GED represents about 12 percent of all high school credentials nationwide, according to a recent report.
How to Earn a GED in the Twin Cities
To earn your GED, you have to take a test with multiple choice questions in five different areas, including reading, writing, social studies, science, and math.
If you want to take the test, you must:
- Have been a Minnesota resident for at least 90 days.
- Be 19 years of age or older (or 16-18 if you submit an age waiver form)
- Be out of school for at least one year / your HS class has graduated
- Pay required testing fees.
Testing is available at the Hubbs Center (651-290-4822) in St. Paul, or through Adult Basic Education (612-668-3800) in Minneapolis.
